Life is not a journey to the grave
with the intention of arriving safely
in a pretty and well preserved piece,
but rather to skid in broadside,
thoroughly used up,
totally worn out,
and loudly proclaiming--
WOW -- WHAT A RIDE ! !

Team Penning - Poem by Beth Roberts after her first Team Penning experience - December 2004
What is it?
What is it that interests us so?
Is it the smell of the leather
Or the rush you get after each run?Maybe it's the cattle
Trying to see which one's work the best
and which are more of a challenge? Is it the feel of your horse beneath you?
The excitement of each snort of breath
and the ever twitching ears?Or is it the people all around becoming friends?
Or maybe it is the sound of pounding hooves,
coming up on the heels of a cow.It is the feel of glory after the "perfect" run?
Or the disappointment and the need to try for the "perfect" run?Is it the laughs you get
When the cow smartly dodges the rider and horse?
Is it the joy of dirt flying
as you race your horse around corner of the pen
To get those cattle in?Maybe it is the adrenaline
when you put your hand up and hear your score.
Then you turn your horse around, grinning, saying
"WE PENNED THREE!!"
"What ever you are riding now, we hope that you have fun.
The Appaloosa horse, of course, will add color to the run."
