High Noon was 2 1/2 months old when we first saw him in 1995.
His sire High Sign Nugget, had at the time won various Canadian National
Championships and Open Show titles under his professional trainers Les Timmons
and Brad Pederson; and the oldest offspring from High Sign Nugget and the great
mare S/W Red Velvet was 2 years old and un-started.
High Noon ran a little “reining pattern” for us that day, in the pasture
at Jim Doblers, and we fell in love. We bought High Noon and picked him up at
weaning. The next year, his full sister won the 3 year old Futurities at the
Canadian Supreme under Brad Pederson and the Magic Cross of High
Sign Nugget and S/W Red Velvet began their long, long list of National and
World Appaloosa Championships and Open Show Titles. High Sign Nugget, himself,
has earned 5 World Championships in Working Cowhorse since 1995.
In 2005, High Noon is ten years old. He has earned his OMB (Outstanding
Member of the Breed) Award and has been to six National Shows. He was 3 years
old at his first Nationals, entered only in Working Cowhorse and Junior
Reining. He came away with his first Champion title in Cowhorse and his first
Reserve Champion title in Reining.
We have never focused on “halter classes” but High Noon has stood Grand
Champion Stallion at numerous Provincial Shows – enough to get the 20 points
needed for his OMB. Our focus has always been on Working Cowhorse and, to a
lesser degree, on Reining… but High
Noon has been shown in most everything you can think of.
High Noon has been awarded 5 National Championships in Working Cowhorse.
(Roger over-spun him in the dry work, one year, and blames himself for marring
an “un-beaten record”.) High Noon has shown against, and beaten, two World
Champions in Working Cowhorse.
In 2001, High Noon faced his sire in competition at the first “Canada’s
Greatest Cowhorse” event. After being up all night with the Vet due to an
allergic reaction to a mould in the barn, High Noon went on to place 6th while High Sign
Nugget stood 9th – the only two Appaloosa in the top ten.
High Noon has also received 4 National Championships in Reining, 2 in
Cutting, 2 in Steer Daubing, 2 in Western Riding, and a National Championship
in Team Penning and Flag Picking.
At the prestigious Open (all breed) Show, the Canadian Supreme, High
Noon was Champion Non-Pro Working Cowhorse as a 4 year old, and Reserve
Champion as a 3 year old and a 4 year old in the Working Cowhorse Futurities.
Roger has done all the training himself on High Noon. He has often said,
“I feel that I’ve let this horse down … What he has earned, he has earned with
raw talent.” We have always wished that funds would allow us to take High Noon
to more shows…and Roger would have liked to have seen him trained and shown by
the caliber of trainers that his sire had the benefit of. But, we did what we
could with what we had.
In 2003, High Noon won the Over-All High Point Silver Buckle for the
Open Horse Division in the “Cowhorse Buckle Series” (all breed competition)
that was the pre-cursor of the Sask. Reined Cowhorse Association. In 2004, High Noon won the Sask. Reined
Cowhorse Assoc. (SRCHA) Over-All High Point Award and Buckle – again – from
points tallied in Ranch Cutting, Reining and Working Cowhorse all breed classes.
At the time of this writing, in 2005, he is running neck and neck with
his daughter YOR High N Dry for the Over-All High Point Award. A 3 year old
daughter named YOR Noon Frost currently has a strong point lead for the
Over-All High Point Junior Horse in the SRCHA. (YOR High N Dry won it in 2004.)
In 2005, High Noon tied with his excellent son YOR Magic Show for the
Reserve Championship in the F3/F4 Iron Horse Competition, during the National
Show. In the 4 different events that were open classes (open to all levels of
Appaloosa horses) an F3/F4 horse was first place in three of them – a strong
testament to the abilities inherent in the Appaloosa blood.
High Noon is registered with the
Canadian ApHCC under that name, and in the ApHC and FAHR (Foundation Appaloosa
Horse Registry) as YOR High Noon. He is an F3 status with the ApHCC.
In 2005, the oldest offspring from High Noon are 7 years old. There are
only a few of those, the result of light service when High Noon was a 2 year
old. Some of his offspring have been shown but many of his daughters have been
retained here for the on-going breeding program, once they’re started under
saddle. We currently have 17 of his daughters and 3 grand-daughters ranging
from F1 to F4 in the herd.
He passes his great ability and attitude along to his offspring.
At her first National Show, in 2005, Amateur rider Sharon Ball showed
her new mare – a 3 year old daughter of High Noon named YOR Haywire
Cowgirl. Sharon took her to a 6th place finish in
Am. Hunter Under Saddle, and a third place finish in Team Penning All Ages.
Roger showed her, as well, in Working Cowhorse All Ages, to a fourth place
finish ! This mare also placed 3rd in a class of 10 all age,
all breed entries in SRCHA Rookie Reining this summer under Sharon. (Sharon’s
first ever experience in Reining !)
That’s versatility – especially for a 3 year old “just started” horse.
At the 2005 National Show, High Noon and his offspring placed 1rst, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th in a field of
seven horses in Open Working Cowhorse. (7th place went to a son of
Ima Doc Olena)
YOR White Hot, a few-spot stallion by High Noon, was the 2005 National Over All High Point Cattle Events Horse.
In 2004, this award was won by a High Noon daughter, a 4 year old at the
time - YOR High N Dry.
High Noon’s temperament and intelligence are exceptional. He has a huge
heart and willing attitude – gentle, easy and calm to handle; a safe and trusty
youth or rookie mount, but expressive in reining and explosive on cattle. He
has great bone, correct conformation, balanced with length of neck and hip and
a style all his own…he is actually quite a “card”. He is our partner and
friend.
There are many different reasons
to raise horses. Our reasons, we hope, are YORS ! To raise and train the best
looking, most willing minded, versatile natural athletes possible. It’s a
life’s work.
High Noon will standing in 2006 by Private Treaty only.
Sincerely,
Vicki & Roger Johnson - YOR Stock Farms
